Ares, the God of War. Son to Zeus and Hera. He is brutal, ferocious and blustering. Hedelighted in slaughter and the sacking of cities, but was cowardly and fled to Zeus for protection when Diomedes wounded him. Save his sister, Eris , the Goddess of discord, and Aphrodite, all of the immortals hated him. With Aphrodite he had an illicit love affair which produced three children: Phobus, Deimus and Harmonia. It also produced one of the greatest scandals on Olympus, for Hephaetus, Aphrodite's husband warned by Helios of what was going on, made a subtle net which exposed the lovers in flagrante delicto. The Gods crowded in to see them and there was great merriment at the spectacle, though the Goddesses modestly stayed away. Zeus was disgusted (yeah right, Zeus disgusted by Aphrodite's love affair, not that he had any himself).
