Galatea, a sea nymph loved by the youth Acis,
son to Faunus. However, Polyphemus, the Cyclops loved her also and when she rejected him
he crushed Acis under a huge rock. She escaped Cyclops by diving into the sea and later changed Acis into a river.
Galatea, name of the statue Pygmalion made and fell in love with and which Aphrodite gave life.
